Dailywiki
Accessibility
We want Dailywiki to be easy to use for everyone. The app works with the accessibility features built into iPhone, so you can read and listen to articles in the way that suits you best.
This page describes the Dailywiki app for iOS. The Android version will be covered here when it is released.
1. Supported features
- VoiceOver: every button, article and setting has a label that VoiceOver reads aloud, titles are marked as headings, and panels that open over the screen keep VoiceOver inside them until you close them.
- Voice Control: buttons can be activated by saying their name, for example the text shown on the button or the label read by VoiceOver.
- Larger Text: the article text follows the text size you choose in your device settings, with no upper limit. Titles and buttons grow up to twice their normal size, so the layout stays readable.
- Dark Interface: the app follows the light or dark appearance of your device, with a dark theme designed for comfortable reading.
- Reduced Motion: when Reduce Motion is turned on in your device settings, the app’s animations are skipped.
2. Listening to articles
Every article can be read aloud by the voice of your device. You can choose the voice and the reading speed in the app settings, and the word being read can be highlighted in the text, so you can follow along while you listen.
3. Contrast and color
Text and controls are designed to meet the contrast level recommended by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG AA), in both the light and the dark theme. Information is never shown by color alone: selected options also have a checkmark, the word being read is underlined as well as highlighted, and the notification setting also changes its icon when it is turned off. The last exceptions, the contrast of the delete button for saved articles and the selected value in the articles per session and reading speed settings, are fixed in version 1.1.1.
4. Features that don’t apply
Dailywiki contains no video, so captions and audio descriptions don’t apply. When an article is read aloud, the same text is always shown on the screen.
5. Feedback
If something in the app doesn’t work well with VoiceOver, Voice Control or another assistive technology, please let us know. We read every message and use it to improve the app. You can contact us via email: dailywiki.app [at] gmail.com
